YPOG expands its tax practice in Cologne: Florian Oppel joins as Associated Partner

Cologne YPOG expands its tax practice in Cologne and reinforces its Team with the renowned tax lawyer Florian Oppel as of April 01, 2022. He joins as an Associated Partner and moves from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he recently practiced as a Principal Associate and belonged to the tax practice as well as to the family business sector group. Florian Oppel is a lawyer, tax law specialist, tax advisor, and specialized advisor for international tax law. In particular, he focuses on the areas of tax law in a corporate context and international tax law. With his expertise, Florian mainly advises family businesses, family offices as well as selected private clients on tax and selected civil law-related matters, especially on cross-border constellations. Moreover, Florian concentrates on corporate and asset succession. He is extensively experienced with German and foreign foundation operations.

"After the successful acquisition of the highly regarded experts Ulrich Prinz and Michael Wendt last year, we are once again strengthening our expertise in the area of tax law through the appointment of Florian Oppel,” says YPOG Partner Andreas Kortendick.

"I am looking forward to focusing even more than before on advising family businesses and to further expanding the tax law practice group at YPOG. The framework conditions are ideal, particularly driven by the renowned corporate practice of Matthias Schatz. I am especially excited to work side by side with Ulrich Prinz and Michael Wendt and to have the opportunity to benefit from their wide range of experience", adds Florian Oppel.

After studying law in Bonn and Cologne, Florian worked for seven years as a lawyer and tax advisor at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Düsseldorf, London, and Amsterdam. During his activities at Freshfields, Florian advised RWE, Siemens Gamesa, Continental, Knauf, Meyer, and numerous (further) family-owned companies and family offices. He is a lecturer at the University of Cologne, holds regular lectures and seminars, and is active as an author and publisher of numerous specialized books and articles. WirtschaftsWoche recommends Florian as a "top consultant" for international tax law. He has been chairman of the Young IFA Network Germany since 2018, a member of the Global YIN Committee, and a member of the professional institute of tax advisors.
