Dr. Frederik Gärtner

Frederik advises corporates, financial investors and start-ups on M&A and venture capital transactions as well as all matters of corporate law. His practice focuses on transaction and corporate law advice to, or in connection with investments in, growth-oriented companies in the areas of FinTech, InsurTech, PropTech, Digital Health, mobility, software and other regulated industries.

Frederik has been recognized by Chambers and Partners' FinTech Legal Guide 2020 as a notable practitioner.

In this year's The Best Lawyers® in Germany edition the US publishing house in cooperation with business daily Handelsblatt® commend Frederik as one of Germany's best lawyers for mergers and acquisitions law.

Education and Career

Frederik studied law in Berlin and Kiel as well as law and management at the Executive School of Management, Technology and Law of the University of St. Gallen. Frederik began his legal career with Hengeler Mueller in Frankfurt and Düsseldorf. Before joining SMP, he was Counsel at the FinTech Raisin ( and founded the LegalTech start-up LexFox (
