Matthias advises investors, start-ups and other national and international companies in all areas of IP/IT and data protection law. His main areas of expertise are in the areas of technology transfer and software licensing, as well as in the support of Venture Capital and M&A transactions with a focus on future technologies.
Education and Career
Matthias studied law at the WWU Münster and the Universidade de Lisboa. After his state examination, Matthias completed a master's degree with a focus on ‘Cyber Law’ at the LTU Melbourne.
During his legal clerkship, he worked as a research assistant in the IT and Legal Tech practice group of a major international law firm in Hamburg and completed another stage in a law firm in Cape Town.
Before joining YPOG, Matthias worked in the IP/IT and Data department at Eversheds Sutherland in Hamburg.
Experience
Matthias recently advised, among others, on the following matters:
- Ongoing advice following a secondment at a world-leading software and cloud provider on matters of software, data protection and contract law
- Supporting the implementation of (European) legislation related to digital technology, in particular the Data Act
- Advising on IP and digital-heavy transactions on behalf of investors, start-ups and multinational companies
- Drafting and revising licensing, usage and data protection provisions for SaaS platform providers and Web3 projects
- Ongoing advice to a leading platform provider in the field of smart farming and agricultural technology
- IT legal advice to financial service providers in connection with regulatory requirements
