Berlin, October 2023 YPOG provided comprehensive legal, tax and regulatory advice to the German venture capital fund La Famiglia on its envisaged partnership with the Silicon Valley venture capital group General Catalyst.

The companies join forces to build one of Europe’s leading transformation platforms with a special focus on early-stage investments. Co-founder Dr Jeannette zu Fürstenberg as well as partner Judith Dada will join General Catalyst as Managing Directors and Partners. La Famiglia will retain its existing teams, working closely with General Catalyst’s London office.

‘For YPOG, advising on this complex matter at the intersection of typical M&A, fund structuring, regulatory and tax has been the opportunity to shape a one-of-a-kind cross-Atlantic merger that bridges the gap between two dynamic venture capital markets’, says Dr Tim Schlösser. ‘The partnership is a true landmark in the VC ecosystem – paving the way for an emerging trend of creating synergies between VC firms from the US and Europe’, adds Dr Stephan Bank.

General Catalyst is an American venture capital firm that implements a full investment stage model that seeks to connect and compound the value of investments from the inception of an idea through the later stages of a company’s lifecycle. La Famiglia is an early-stage venture capital fund backing the best tech entrepreneurs across Europe and the US. For La Famiglia, the partnership results in added financial and platform resources to invest into what La Famiglia believes to be the most promising European founders and to substantially support them into the growth stage and beyond. For General Catalyst, the partnership brings the opportunity to further build out its creation strategy in Europe, which implies the active incubation of ambitious companies alongside experienced industry experts.

On the US side we successfully worked together with our friends from Choate Hall & Stewart.
